Transforming a divided floorplate into a unified, purposeful workplace
Plymouth Rock Assurance invited Ebbrell Architecture + Design to extend their Home Group workspace within the complex ground floor of 695 Atlantic Avenue—a building composed of multiple merged structures with varying floor levels. The challenge was to unify two work zones separated by a 3-foot level change and create a seamless experience across the expanded footprint. We reimagined the transition with a new connecting stair while optimizing workstation layout and taking advantage of the high ceiling height to create a cohesive and dynamic environment.
- Connected two workspace zones via a newly designed stair, removing existing bathrooms and maximizing ceiling height to enhance the sense of flow.
- Reoriented the original workstation plan into a fluid "constellation" layout using120-degree stations, increasing density and complementing the architecture.
- Painted existing structural columns in a gradient of greys to support intuitive wayfinding and draw the eye toward natural light and views, while activating the back wall of the space with a striking satellite image mural that adds depth, energy, and a strong sense of place.
