Merging a hospitality mindset with research-driven function, this revitalized space fosters collaboration, creativity, and the next generation of innovators
This multi-phased, occupied renovation of MERL’s 30,000 SF Cambridge headquarters was carefully planned and executed while the facility remained operational. At the heart of the project is a welcoming, hospitality-inspired reception suite that sets the tone for a modernized workplace experience—complete with a concierge-style admin workspace, touchdown areas, and meeting space. A vibrant café, designed with coffee shop cues, connects to a large training room and serves as the hub for staff interaction and engagement. The renovation also introduced upgraded labs, flexible workspaces, and wellness and support areas to meet the evolving needs of MERL’s research teams and robust summer intern program.
