Former mill space transformed into boutique early education center for Kidsborough/Littleborough in Hopkinton, MA
One big thing: Brand-colored, hand-painted murals create a unique kid-centric element in the facility
Design deets:
The 7,150 SF two-level former aftercare space was converted to create Littleborough, and a 3rd floor 4,200 SF space was built out for the after-school program, Kidsborough.
Gutted 1st and 2nd floors to create an infant room, two each, toddler and preschool rooms, as well as restrooms and age-appropriate gross motor and imaginary play areas.
Designed open play area, quiet study, new pantry, storage, and bathrooms in 3rd floor loft space.
Used sustainable rubber flooring and “roads” and “crosswalks” were created in main Littleborough circulation spaces to add both whimsy and order to the floor plan.
Maintained the architectural integrity of the old mill space, refinished the wood floors and columns, and used LED lighting to highlight existing wood beams.
Designed custom acoustical clouds and millwork “house” seating niches.
